Basic plastic provides a thick lens with good optical properties but limited impact resistance. We do not recommend this material for safety reasons.
Thinner and lighter but with poorer clarity than CR-39. Superior impact resistance makes this a great choice for safety eyewear.
Lightweight with superior impact resistance properties and better optical qualities than poly. This is the lens of choice within our optical for daily wear lenses.
Thinner and lighter materials that allow us to thin out higher prescriptions. Recommended for higher prescription to give lenses a more appealing look and increase comfort by decreasing lens weight.
Standard lenses for the correction of myopia, hypermetropia, and presbyopia.
Single vision lenses with aspheric designs which allow the eyes to relax when doing long periods of near work leading to less eye strain. Many have blue light protection properties included in the design.
Lens designs with two fixed focal lengths, often used for seeing distance and near. This lens does not account for the mid-length viewing such as computers.
Lenses which progressively change from distance to near as you look from the top to the bottom of the lens. These allow the greatest visual freedom and provide you vision at all distances.
Multilayer treatment protecting against glare, scratches, and smudges. Anti-Reflective makes your eyes more visible to others while stopping unwanted reflections so you have the clearest image out of your eyewear. Most come with 1-2 year no questions asked scratch warranties and protect against harmful UV rays. PLEASE, never buy glasses without a high-quality anti-reflective property.
Limits the angle of reflections able to pass through your lenses, reducing glare, and making your eyes more comfortable during activities. Great for fishing, golfing, or any other outdoor activity requiring crisp, clear vision.
This technology darkens when exposed to UV light. Great for those who frequently go from indoors to outdoors and do not want to carry a second pair of sunglasses. One of the added benefits of the Transition products is the increased UV & blue light protection that is a built in to the lens technology. Transition 8 was just released to the market as well as mirror flash coatings so there are endless options to make your eye wear unique while protecting your eyes to the fullest.
The material your lenses are made out of have properties that affect how well you see, how heavy & thick the lenses are, shatter resistance, and UV protection.
Different lens materials have different properties that affect the following:
Vision quality
Weight and thickness of the lenses
Shatter resistance
Level of UV protection
Glass lenses are not commonly used any more due to obvious safety concerns. Glass lenses provide superior optics and unmatched clarity so some well-versed enthusiasts will request glass. Glass lenses should never be used in anyone under the age of 18.
Simple plastic lenses (CR-39) provide clarity almost as clear as glass but are heavier and scratch easily. Plastic lenses shatter when under impact, are thicker, and are heavier when the prescription has any significance; therefore, CR-39 is not recommended.
Impact-resistant materials, called Polycarbonate, are always recommended for young children, active adults, and those with moderate prescriptions, as they provide 100% UV protection, are shatter-proof, and are thinner and more lightweight. Polycarbonate can create visual distortion in prescriptions that are not ideal for this level of material. This is the minimal material that Dr. Morrow recommends to patients as she believes your eyes deserve to be protected.
Trivex offers increased clarity over the entire lens. Similar to polycarb, they are shatter-proof, offer 100% UV protection, and are thin and lightweight. Dr. Morrow personally wears Trivex since the material provides superior vision. Trivex is not always available in all tints, coatings, or additional lens enhancements, but our optician will be able to help you custom-design your glasses with the best material possible.
High-index lenses are used for moderate and high prescriptions. They are ultimately the thinnest and lightest lenses you can order in the US. There are two levels of high-index: 1.67 and 1.74. Depending on your prescription, our optician will recommend which would be best for you. Vision can be corrected with less material when using high-index material, making them thin and lightweight.
Always use two hands to take your glasses on and off.
Use a lens cloth to clean your lenses regularly. NEVER use your shirt, tissue, or paper towel to clean the lenses.
Use a lens cleaning spray 1-2X/week: 1 spray on the lenses and wipe clean using lens cloth.
If the glasses have a lot of dust or particles on the lenses, rinse with tap water before wiping clean to avoid scratching the lenses.
Occasionally use dawn dish soap to clean the frame and lenses and rinse with warm water. Clean lenses with lens cloth to dry and remove water spots.
Come by the office to get them cleaned and adjusted every 2-3 months to ensure proper fit.
When you purchase your eye wear at ForSight, it has a 1-2 year warranty, so please call us to let us know if anything happens to the glasses. Save all of your pieces of the frame and the lenses because we will need to return all pieces/lenses in order to take advantage of the warranty.
The simple answer is because we offer superior customer service and materials. Online retailers do not employ people of the community, do not have a storefront, do not pay local taxes, or offer customer service. Online retailers are 100% dependent on the brick-and-mortar doctors offices and patients to provide the prescription and other pertinent information to sell their product.
At ForSight, we only offer independent frame companies that pride themselves on quality, craftsmanship, relationships, and the environment. Most of our frame collections are handmade, some of which are handmade in the USA.
Our motto is quality, not quantity. Just like with any product or service (shoes, purses, haircuts, cars, etc.), you can always pay less, and glasses are no different. When you purchase our frames or lenses, you are getting products that are backed by a 1-2 year warranty, are made with superior designs and materials, and are fit by a professional.
